Assistant Controller

Needed immediately in St. Petersburg, FL.

Summary: The Assistant Controller will report directly to the Corporate Controller with exposure to the Chief Financial Officer.  You will be part of a high-performing team who is expected to lead, take ownership of your areas of responsibility and ensure accurate and timely completion of the company’s reporting requirements.  You will work closely with the Corporate Controller in directing the company’s accounting functions.  These functions include establishing and maintaining the company’s accounting policies and procedures, preparing accurate and timely monthly/quarterly/annual financial statements, managing the external audit process and maintaining data integrity in the company’s financial systems.  The ideal candidate is one who collaborates well across multiple functions, explores and embraces opportunities for doing things in new ways and initiates, and/or supports, improvements in work processes to increase efficiency.

  • Directly supervise, manage and continually develop a team of three accountants at the senior and staff levels.
  • Efficiently and accurately close the books for the Freedom Scientific subsidiaries including review of the general ledger, sub-ledgers, supporting schedules and balance sheet account reconciliations.
  • Coordinate the global monthly close process using Blackline Task Management tool to ensure all month-end close deadlines are met.
  • Coordinate the global consolidation of the company’s financial statements including eliminations and intercompany balances.  Experience using Adaptive Insights consolidation software tool is a plus.
  • Prepare monthly consolidated reporting package for company’s sponsor and banks.
  • Develop and maintain thorough knowledge and understanding of the company’s accounting policies, financial systems, transaction processes, internal controls and chart of accounts.
  • Assist Corporate Controller with managing external audit processes, including establishing and maintaining audit relationship, coordinating field work dates and resolving audit issues.
  • Research technical accounting topics and document/report conclusion to Corporate Controller and/or CFO.
  • Ensure data integrity in the company’s financial systems, specifically Microsoft Dynamics GP and Adaptive Insights.
  • Ensure the completeness, accuracy and clarity of annual external financial reporting in accordance with GAAP requirements.
  • Appraise, evaluate, and inventory the company’s demo equipment, recording information such as the description, value and location of property.
  • Critically review current accounting and reporting processes and identify ways to improve and automate.
  • Critically review the company’s operations to ascertain accounting needs and to recommend, develop, or maintain solutions to business and financial problems.
  • Coach and mentor team members and promote a team environment.  Actively support career development for the team.
  • Support M&A transactions from due diligence through integration.
  • Manage and perform ad hoc analysis or special projects as needed.

Position Qualifications:

Competency Statement(s)

  • Demonstrated expertise in US GAAP including ability to understand complex accounting processes and methodologies
  • Knowledge and experience with SOX and internal control compliance
  • Strong IT skills and exposure to ERP systems, preferably Microsoft Dynamics GP
  • Familiar with international subsidiaries, including foreign currency valuations, international consolidations, transfer pricing and intercompany eliminations.

SKILLS & ABILITIES
Education
BS or BA Degree in Accounting or Finance (Accounting preferred).   CPA required.
Experience/Language:
7-10 years accounting experience; 3-4 years Big Four accounting firm experience preferred
Computer Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Power Point, Excel) with intermediate to advanced-level Excel skills.  Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains, Blackline and Adaptive Insights experience a plus.

Work Environment:  Office environment in a controlled atmosphere building.

Summary: As an Accessibility Engineer, you will help ensure accessibility of technology for people with disabilities and older users, with an emphasis on accessibility of Web technologies and guidelines, mobile accessibility, and native applications. The successful candidate must be able to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and demonstrate the ability to prioritize and multi-task a variety of demanding assignments without a degradation of work quality.
